Some air travellers are still waiting for their luggage several days after a mechanical issue caused by the frigid weather at Toronto’s Pearson Airport prevented bags from getting onto departing flights.

But staff at Sunwing Airlines have now set up a baggage pick up location near the airport.

A statement from the airline says “some luggage did not accompany passengers who flew south between the 24th and 27th of December. Those travellers can now get their bags between 7am and 10pm.”

But what about compensation for the inconvenience of lost luggage?

Martin Firestone of Travel Secure Inc. told Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with guest host Jane Brown, at what point an affected traveller would be eligible for some cash back.

“If you had the foresight to buy cancellation or interruption insurance which has an element of baggage in it, then you are half way there in the sense that you would at least know, if the bag was delayed more than six hours, you’re entitled to spend up to $900 for personal effects and things like that, so that’s good news,” Firestone explained.

If you didn’t buy that insurance, he says you’re at the mercy of the airline. Listen to the podcast by clicking here.
