As of Sunday, Ontarians with 13 common illnesses can bypass the doctor’s office and go straight to the pharmacy to acquire a prescription.

According to the provincial administration, pharmacists now have the authority to recommend medications for illnesses like pink eye, hemorrhoids, and urinary tract infections.

Residents merely need to present their health card to a participating drugstore, according to the government.

Both Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall said their pharmacists would be ready to provide the service as of Sunday.

However, the president of the Ontario Pharmacists Association warned that there might be a slight ramp-up time.

According to Justin Bates, Ontario residents should contact their pharmacies or check their websites to see if they are prepared to fill prescriptions.
