Just how much water should we be drinking every day?

New U.S. research is bolstering the theory that nearly all of us should be hydrating more.

The survey from a branch of the National Institutes of Health looked at sodium levels in the blood stream, finding that higher levels were associated with heart failure, stroke, diabetes and dementia.

Researchers say the best way to reduce sodium levels is to increase water intake.

The generally accepted guideline for an average man is 12.5 cups of water a day and 9 cups for the average woman.

The study also suggests that boosting the amount of water you consume, through food and drink, can help to keep your biological age from exceeding your chronological age.
