Germany has received its first regular shipment of liquefied natural gas from the United States.
It is part of a larger effort to assist the country in replacing energy supplies previously received from Russia.
The ship arrived in Wilhelmshaven, where its L.N.G. cargo will be converted back into gas at a special floating terminal that opened last month.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Germany has rushed to find a replacement for Russian gas supplies.
The Wilhelmshaven facility is one of several such terminals being built to help prevent an energy supply shortage.
Germany has also temporarily restarted old coal and oil-fired power plants and extended the life of its last three nuclear reactors until mid-April.
