First Police, TTC, then housing and now John Tory’s proposing a larger budget this year for paramedic and fire frontline services.

The Toronto mayor’s suggesting funding for paramedics be raised by $21-million, or 7.1%, to $315.7-million.
He says this would allow for the hiring of up to 250 paramedics, with 66 being newly created.
The budget proposed for Toronto Fire would total $523.9-million, including around $20-million in continuing COVID-related impacts.
According to Tory, that funding would result in the hiring of up to 200 firefighters this year, with 52 newly created jobs as part of the city’s three-year plan to add 156 new firefighter positions.
”Like all Torontonians I am so grateful for our paramedics and firefighters and the incredible sacrifices they make every day to keep our residents safe,” he adds.
”In budget 2023, we’re protecting these crucial frontline services, and adding more paramedics and firefighters, so they can continue the lifesaving work they do.”
