Sunwing Airlines has heard from a lot of unhappy customers about their Christmas travel disruptions.
Andrew Dawson, head of tour operations at Sunwing Travel Group, told members of the Commons Transport Committee, the airline’s received about 7,000 complaints so far.
Many are demanding partial compensation or full refunds for their troubles.
Sunwing president Len Corrado began his testimony with an apology.
”We failed to deliver to the level that we had expected, and that Canadians had expected from us over this holiday season,” he added.
WestJet’s Andrew Gibbons says airlines are not the only ones responsible for the cancelled or delayed flights.
”This is not about blame game. It is simply about improving the system overall and making sure there’s full transparency so the Canadian traveler understands what is the root cause of their delay or cancel,” adds Gibbons.
Meanwhile, Air Canada is calling on the government to invest more of the taxes and fees it collects from airlines into industry infrastructure, so it can cope more effectively with any weather disruptions.
