Saying the status quo is no longer acceptable, Doug Ford is spelling out his government plans to reduce wait times for surgeries, ”all while ensuring Ontarians use their OHIP card to get the care they need, never their credit card.”
The first stage is to add 14,000 cataract surgeries through what the government calls ”new partnerships”  with community centres in Kitchener-Waterloo, Windsor and Ottawa.
In addition, $18-million is going into existing centres across the province for MRI and CT scans, cataract surgeries, other eye surgeries and certain gynecological and plastic surgeries.
Surgical wait lists are expected to return to pre-COVID levels by this March, barring operational issues.
Subsequent steps are to include expanding the scope of private surgical and diagnostic centres, then expanding hip and knee replacements at the clinics starting next year.
