In order to pay their ultimate respects to the former King of Greece, Constantine, thousands of people have been lining up outside the cathedral in Athens since before sunrise.

He died last week at the age of 82.

In a referendum in 1974, the monarchy of Greece was definitively overthrown, and Constantine was forced into exile for several years.

Prior to moving back to his native nation again in his later years, he spent the majority of his time in London.

Following his passing, the authorities declared that Constantine would be buried in Tatoi as a private individual without the official state honours.

The location is a historic royal estate north of Athens next to his family’s graves.
