Rocker Steve Vai  has been reunited with a guitar that went missing more than 36 years ago.

It’s a green custom-built electric guitar that he named “Swiss Cheese” because it has holes drilled in it.

On social media Vai said that he used it in David Lee Roth’s “Yankee Rose” video.

Vai had planned to tour with it when it and three other instruments were stolen from a rehearsal space in Pasadena, California.

A man discovered it in the attic of his grandparents’ home in Tijuana, Mexico, decades later.

It appears that a previous resident left it behind. The man posted photos online, and one of Vai’s friends recognized it.

The guitar was returned to Vai, who claims it is in such good condition that it is as if it hasn’t been played in 36 years.

Vai says having it back “feels like an old friend has returned home.”
