The integrity commissioner will investigate incoming NDP Leader Marit Stiles’ concerns that Housing Minister Steve Clark may have broken ethics rules by giving developers a heads up before the plans for the Greenbelt were announced.
”There’s no question, in my mind, and I think in the minds of many Ontarians, that something smells fishy here and Ontarians deserve answers,” says Stiles.
The integrity commissioner’s determined there’s ”insufficient evidence” to investigate Doug Ford.
And in a joint request, the three opposition leaders argued Auditor-General Bonnie Lysyk needs to carry out a value-for-money audit into the financial and environmental impacts of removing 7,400 acres of previously protected land.
Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner says both investigations are ”important to shed light on these land deals because the public has a right to know … and to respond.”
The final scope of the auditor-general’s investigation will be determined in the next month or two.
Lysyk hopes to complete it this year.
