Actor Alec Baldwin and Hannah Gutierrez Reed, who supervised weapons on the set of the Western ”Rust,” will be charged with involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer.
Halyna Hutchins died soon after being wounded during rehearsals at a ranch outside Santa Fe on October 21, 2021.
Baldwin was pointing a pistol at her when it went off, killing her and wounding the director, Joel Souza.
Assistant director David Halls, who gave Baldwin the gun, has signed an agreement to plead guilty to negligent use of a deadly weapon.
Baldwin has said he was told the gun was safe.
The Santa Fe district attorney says a judge will decide if there’s probably cause to proceed to trial.
Under New Mexico law, involuntary manslaughter is punishable by up to 18-months in jail and a $5,000 fine.
There’s a provision that could result in a mandatory five years in prison since the offense was committed with a gun.
