The Armed Forces has determined Major-General Dany Fortin ”did not engage in sexual misconduct,” after he was acquitted late last year.
A Quebec civilian judge ruled the prosecution had not shown beyond a reasonable doubt that Fortin sexually assaulted a fellow female military college student in 1988.
A spokesperson for the military says a review process did not result in any administrative action, and a review is not required in the case.
A spokesperson for the Armed Forces says in a statement that Fortin will be assigned ”appropriate duties commensurate with his rank and experience,” and that the military acknowledges ”this has been a long and difficult process.”
”This is exactly why women don’t come forward,” is the reaction from the complainant, whose identity is protected under a court-ordered public ban.
Fortin was head of the federal government’s COVID vaccine rollout until the allegation surfaced in May 2021 and was put on paid leave pending an investigation.
He has argued separately in Federal Court that he was removed as a result of political interference and without due process, which the government has denied.
