There have been cascading cancellations on the Paris train system as a result of what appear to be intentionally set fire to electrical cable clusters.

The fires all but shut down services at one of the French capital’s busiest stations.

48 cables that power train signals on the network were damaged by overnight fires, according to the SNCF national rail operator.

The SNCF filed a legal complaint that said the damage appeared to be deliberate.

According to the transport minister, fires were ignited in two locations.

The apparent act of vandalism largely shut down the Gare de l’Est station that generally links Paris to cities and towns in the east.
