One of the deadliest attacks on Israelis in years has taken place near a synagogue in east Jerusalem.

Israeli medics say a gunman killed at least 7 and wounded 3.

The shooter was killed by police.

This happened hours after survivors of Auschwitz-Birkenau gathered to commemorate the 78th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi German death camp in Poland, where 1.1-million — mostly Jews — were murdered.

Holocaust Remembrance day events were held around the world, including at Toronto city hall where Mayor John Tory spoke.

”We cannot let our guard down for a moment when it comes to words and actions; whether it’s of antisemitism or any other kind of hatred or discrimination, because that is entirely consistent with our values, and you don’t know where leads,” said the mayor.

”Well, we do know where it leads if left unchecked.”
