Russian dictator Vladimir Putin delivered his long-awaited state of the nation address in Moscow today and again blamed the west for for causing his country’s invasion and year long war in neighbouring Ukraine.

Observers were expecting Putin to shed light on how the Kremlin sees its bogged-down war in Ukraine.

Instead, Putin told an audience of lawmakers, state officials and soldiers who’ve fought in Ukraine that Western countries started the war and that Russia is “using force to end it.”

It’s not the first time Putin has justified the invasion because of western countries threatening Russia.

In addition, Putin declared that Moscow is suspending its participation in the last remaining nuclear arms control pact with the United States.

Putin said if the U.S. resumes nuclear weapons tests than Russia is standing ready to do the same.

Should this happen, it would end a global ban on nuclear weapons tests in place since the Cold War era.
