Canadian acting legend Gordon Pinsent has died.

The Newfoundland native has been a household name in Canada for decades, known for his many appearances in theatres and on screen.

Fellow actor Mark Critch says he will miss Pinsent as a friend, mentor, hero and “giant colossus of Canadian entertainment.”

Pinsent’s TV credits include “Hogans Heroes”, “Marcus Welby, M.D.”, “The Beachcombers”, “The Red Green Show”, “Corner Gas” and “Republic of Doyle.”

Pinsent’s career hit its peak when he was well into his 70’s, with an award-winning performance as the heartbroken husband in the film “Away From Her.”

The beloved actor became known internationally after his Genie Award-winning turn as Grant in Sarah Polley’s acclaimed directorial debut.

A statement released Saturday night says Pinsent died peacefully in his sleep, with his family at his side.

Gordon Pinsent was 92.
