NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg says membership for Finland and Sweden is a “top priority” for the military alliance, and he urges members Turkey and Hungary to ratify the Nordic countries’ accession as soon as possible.
Jens Stoltenberg said at a news conference with Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin in Helsinki on Tuesday that both countries are making progress towards membership.
Stoltenberg stated that he is “absolutely confident” that Finland and Sweden will join NATO.
He went on to say that both countries fully meet NATO’s entry criteria and have “delivered on what they were supposed to do” since applying to join the alliance in May.
