It was supposed to have happened in Ukraine but Vladimir Putin’s Russian invasion scuttled that, so instead its being held in Liverpool in May.
The festival surrounding Eurovision 2023 kicks off with a yellow submarine parade through the streets (a nod to Liverpool’s most famous musicians and one of the colours of Ukraine flag) and a rave to be held simultaneously in Liverpool and Kyiv as part of a two week festival taking place ahead of the main event.
Among the artists confirmed is the English National Opera which will perform its take on classic Eurovision songs.
At Liverpool Cathedral, Ukrainian artist Katya Buch-at-ska will recreate a train carriage used to flee the war.
The cultural festival – has been titled EuroFest, will run prior to the main event from May first to the 14th.
