An investigation will take place into allegations of foreign interference in Canada’s last two general elections.
The commissioner of Canada Elections says her office received 158 complaints concerning the 2019 vote dealing with ”10 situations” and 16 regarding ”13 situations” in the 2021 election.
There’s no explanation as to what’s meant by ”situations” but Caroline Simard says all those complaints have been resolved.
Meanwhile, the head of this country’s spy agency, CSIS, says the main threat to the integrity of our elections is not the Chinese people.
”We have been clear that the principle threat to Canada comes from the Peoples Republic of China, but to be clear the threat does not come from the Chinese people, but rather from the Chinese Communist Party and the government of China,” said David Vigneault.
He also told a Commons committee that he agrees with an independent panel that determined the integrity of the last two elections was not compromised by foreign actors.
