Avril Lavigne was awarded with her fourth fans choice trophy at the Juno Awards in Edmonton Monday night.

In her acceptance speech, the singer-songwriter from Napanee, Ontario reflected on the 21 years since her debut album Let Go was released.

“I’ve seen the industry change so much, music change, the business change, technology change, trends come and go, artists come and go, but the one thing that’s been most consistent for me is my fan base over the last twenty years. Thank you guys, so much!” Avril told the Junos.

Beyond the accolades, Avril earlier had to deal with a topless protester who got up on stage unexpectedly when Lavigne was introducing a performance by Punjabi-Canadian singer and rapper AP Dhillon.

Security did not react right away, so Avil told the woman to “get the f**k off the stage”.

The Juno Awards ceremony also included a spotlight on the 50th anniversary of hip hop, featuring performances by a number of artists including Maestro Fresh Wes.

Maestro was the first winner of the Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year in 1991.

And Alberta band Nickelback was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
