She was born in Western Canada and found fame as a thrillingly expressive ballerina in the United Kingdom.

Lynn Seymour originated a parade of singular roles while working with choreographers Kenneth MacMillan and Frederick Ashton at the Royal Ballet in London.

Many ballet critics said she was perhaps the greatest dance-actress of her generation, with a fluid, naturalistic style and an uncanny ability to disappear into a part.

She was raised in a patch of rural Alberta that she once described as “wheat, oil and cow country.”

Lynn Seymour has died in London on the eve of her 84th birthday.

Her death was confirmed by the Royal Ballet which did not release a cause.
