Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is in for a high-stakes grilling by a committee of lawmakers.
Whether he lied to Parliament about unlawful parties held in government buildings during the coronavirus pandemic is the subject of discussion.
Johnson claims he never deliberately lied and “the evidence conclusively shows that I did not knowingly or recklessly mislead Parliament.”
Wednesday’s televised hearing will be a moment of peril for a politician whose career has been a roller-coaster of scandals and comebacks.
If the House of Commons Committee of Privileges determines that Johnson lied knowingly, the former prime minister may be suspended from office or possibly lose his membership in Parliament, whichwould likely put an end to the 58-year-old politician’s hopes of making a comeback.
Johnson resigned back in July after three years in office.
