NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is congratulating his M-P’s for pushing the Liberals to adopt several measures in the budget.

“I’m proud and we’re proud as a team that we fought for and delivered dental care, we doubled the G-S-T rebate, we fought for good jobs with good wages that will fight the climate crisis and we fought for investments for Indigenous housing.”

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre calls the budget a full-frontal attack on the paycheques of hard working Canadians and says his party won’t be voting in favour of the budget.

Meantime, new measures outlined in the budget will protect borrowers at risk of losing their home from having to pay unnecessary penalties, internal bank fees, or interest charges.

And B-MO Capital Markets chief economist Douglas Porter says this year’s economic plan had few other new housing measures.

“Last year was really the housing budget, that’s where most of he efforts were trained, and it’s almost like the focus moved on this year as housing was very much an afterthought in this budget, it almost didn’t get a mention.”

Also including in the fiscal blueprint, plans to speed up airport security screening and reduce flight delays. The budget promises $1.8-billion dollars over five years for to improve passenger screening.

Aviation expert John Gradek adds there’s a new requirement that airlines and airports share data.

“The airlines are basically saying that there’s a need to keep the passenger count confidential for commercial reasons and what the government is trying to do is say that the airports really need that information.”

The budget measures come after the Transport Minister pledged to overhaul the country’s passenger rights charter in January following chaotic travel seasons over the summer and winter holidays.
