Today is Clean Air Day as people across Ontario breathe in smoke from forest fires burning across the country.

During Question Period at Queens Park, Opposition Leader Marit Stiles asked Doug Ford if he’ll recognize the role climate change is playing, but he downplayed it.

“Approximately 50% of the fires are started by lightning strikes, the other 50% are people starting campfires and not putting out the campfires properly so I’m asking every Ontarian, please do not light any campfires,” said Ford.

The Premier acknowledged the major impact of smoke across the GTA but said the province is responding in full force with 142 fire ranger crews, 28 aircraft and nine heavy water bombers.

There are 414 wildfires across Canada with 230 considered out of control.

In Ontario, 25 were out of control on Monday.
