Canadians are being advised to avoid all travel to Israel and the West Bank due to the “unpredictable security situation” in the region.

According to Global Affairs Canada, there is a heightened risk of attacks on Israeli territory, amid heightened tensions in the West Bank.

In a statement, Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly said the regional security situation remains highly volatile and could escalate without notice, noting that Canadians should consider leaving the area by commercial means.

This, as the United States Embassy in Israel is telling its staff not to travel, as concerns grow about Iranian retaliation for last week’s alleged deadly strike on its consulate in Syria.

This updated travel guidance comes less than two weeks after seven aid workers with the World Central Kitchen, one of them a dual Canadian-American citizen, were killed when an Israeli airstrike hit their convoy while they were delivering food in the Gaza Strip.
