The lives of the French family of St. Catharines changed April 16, 1992, when Doug and Donna French’s then soon to be 16-year-old daughter Kristen was forcibly taken by Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka under the pretence of needing directions.

Her father passed away in hospital last Sunday; two days before the 32-year anniversary of his daughter’s disappearance.

Visitation will be held tomorrow at George Darte Funeral Home 2:30pm – 4:30pm and 6pm – 8pm, as well as Friday between 12pm and 1pm.

The funeral is Friday 2pm at St. Alfred’s Church.

Memorial donations can be made to he Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre Niagara.

Kristen was the third murder victim of Bernardo and Homolka after Karla’s 15-year-old sister Tammy in 1990 and 14-year-old Leslie Mahaffy in 1991.

The couple went on trial in 1995.

Homolka took a plea bargain and was released 2005.

The Scarborough born Bernardo was sentenced to life in prison without parole for at least 25-years, and designated a dangerous offender, making him highly unlikely to ever be released, though he has been transferred from maximum security to a medium-security prison.
