Thousands of people were out  enjoying great weather as they took to the streets of downtown Toronto today to march in the annual Labour Day parade.

The theme was   “Unite Against Austerity.” and it  brought together members from various unions across the province.

Parade organizer John Cartwright is the  president of the Toronto and York Region Labour Council.

He  says people are angry  with legislation to force contracts on Ontario teachers and warnings that wage freezes will be coming to other public sector workers.

Those taking part in the parade included ACTRA, members of the Ontario Federation of Labour, Canadian Auto Workers, Canadian Union of Public Employees and federal and provincial New Democrats.
