Afer a brief stop in Vancouver, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has arrived at the site of the A-PEC leaders summit. It will be held this weekend in the eastern Russian port of Vladivostok. The Prime Minister will have an opportunity to meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao. He gave a glimpse of what he might say to a business forum in Vancouver. Harper says the onus is on China to show its state run enterprises can be trusted to play by the same rules as Canada. And while Harper wants to expand economic relations with China, he is moving cautiously, “We should approach it from that perspective; respectful, but not afraid in the least to further our own interests and to raise our own concerns on things like human rights, as I do regularly.” The Prime Minister says Canada must expand trade to China and other markets that are likely to enjoy strong long term growth.
