Ontario’s Premier says he’s making cancer prevention among our children a priority issue. Dalton McGuinty said this morning, his government will support a plan by NDP MPP France Gelinas to ban tanning bed use in Ontario for children under 18. He said, “I phoned France yesterday. I commended her for her initiative and told her that Deb Matthews had a broader more comprehensive bill. But let’s go with your bill. I think it’s ready to go. There are some changes that we’re going to work out at committee. I think there’s a strong concensus in the scientific community (that tanning bed use increases cancer risk).” Dalton McGuinty made his comments after touring the Odette Cancer Centre at Toronto’s Sunnybrook Hospital.
