Author Will Ferguson is already the winner of three Stephen Leacock medals for humour.
Now he’ll have to make room on his mantle for another award: the 2012 Scotiabank Giller Prize.
The 48-year-old Calgary humourist won the 50-thousand-dollar prize for his novel 419 at a gala award ceremony in Toronto last night.
The novel is something of a departure for Ferguson, who is best known for his travel writing. It tells the story of a Canadian family becoming ensnared in a Nigerian email scam.
Ferguson was chosen over four other writers: Nancy Richler, Alix Ohlin, Kim Thuy, and Russell Wangersky.
