tory-campaign-launch2John Tory officially launched his Toronto mayoral campaign last night by taking aim at his competition.  “Rob Ford has disappointed almost everyone with his behaviour.  Olivia Chow brings a long record of polarization.”

Tory delivered a passionate speech before a few hundred people at the downtown Polish Combatants Hall on Beverly Street.  He promised a “course correction” for Toronto if he’s elected saying, “I’m the only candidate that will take Toronto, not left, not right, but forward.”

Tory also took another dig at Toronto’s embattled mayor by saying, “I’m not perfect but unlike some others, I will never be content with that fact.”  In the midst of his ongoing scandals, Ford often says he wasn’t elected to be perfect.  Yesterday, the mayor literally had to sprint through Toronto City Hall to try and lose reporters who were dogging him for comments about the latest police documents in the investigation into his and his friend Alexander Lisi’s behaviour.  New documents describe the mayor inhaling from what appears to be a crack pipe in the infamous video.

Ford now has more competition in his bid for re-election.  Former 2010 candidate Sarah Thomson filed her papers this morning to run for Mayor.
