An impressive new public artwork will welcome visitors next year to the Toronto Pan-Am Sports Centre.

The huge work is described as “a kinetic sculpture” inspired by the lanes of the Sports Centre’s two Olympic-sized pools.

The piece is titled “Water Velocity.”

It’s approximately 11 metres tall and was created by 3 artists who won a national competition to create a distinctive public artwork for the main entrance to the games.

The winning Quebec City-based collective “BGL,” was recently chosen to represent Canada at the prestigious 2015 Venice Biennale – which is among the world’s most important showcases for contemporary art.

The University of Toronto at Scarborough (UTSC), the City of Toronto and TO2015 commissioned the Pan-Am artwork.
