The loss of a key cabinet minister has moved Premier Kathleen Wynne to do a spring cleaning of her cabinet.

Two new faces are leaving the back benches and being elevated to the minority Liberal cabinet.

Thunder Bay – Atikokan MPP Bill Mauro is replacing Linda Jeffrey as Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister.

Jeffrey is leaving to run for mayor of Brampton.

The other part of the shuffle sees Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn becoming minister of Labour – a file that Yasir Naqvi used to lead.

Naqvi becomes minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

Today’s moves come just weeks before a provincial budget that – if defeated – would hurl the province into a snap election.

Other changes to the Liberal lineup include making Madeleine Meilleur the province’s first francophone attorney general. She already serves as minister responsible for Francophone Affairs.

John Gerretsen will take on the role of Chair of Cabinet.
