Premier Kathleen Wynne is denying accusations that she was part of an alleged cover-up in the gas plant scandal.

Opposition leader Tim Hudak charges that the scandal is “more Kathleen Wynne’s than Dalton McGuinty’s because she oversaw, and possibly ordered, the destruction of documents.”

An OPP search warrant alleges that Dalton McGuinty’s former chief of staff, David Livingston, orchestrated the destruction of government documents by bringing in an outside tech expert to wipe information off 24 computers in the Premier’s office during the transition of power from McGuinty to Kathleen Wynne.

Livingston is being investigated for breach of trust. His lawyer says he is confident his client has done nothing wrong.

Wynne calls Hudak’s accusations “irresponsible and disgraceful.” She says, “I did not order anyone in my office to destroy information. Nor would I ever do that.”

She went on to say that her government has “changed the rules about the retention of information.”

The allegations have not been tested in court. But political analysts say they could make it more difficult for Andrea Horwath and the NDP to continue supporting the minority Liberals.
