A devastating day for the family of five-year old Nathan O’Brien and his grandparents, Alvin and Kathy Liknes.

Calgary police say two charges of first-degree murder and one of second-degree murder are pending in their disappearance.

A man’s been arrested but has not yet appeared in court to be charged.

The police chief will not confirm reports it’s Douglas Garland, who was questioned as a person of interest more than a week ago.

He was released last Friday on unrelated charges.

Police have said Garland’s sister is in a relationship with a member of the Liknes family and there have been reports Garland had business dealings with the grandfather.

The bodies of the three have not been found and police are appealing to landowners to check their property and report anything suspicious.
