Oscar winning director Jean-Marc Vallee has long-planned to make a movie about the Franklin expedition of 1845.
And with the recent discovery of one of Sir John Franklin’s long lost ships – the Canadian director says the story is even more captivating.
Back in 2009 Vallee bought the rights to Dominque Fortier’s debut novel “On The Proper Use Of Stars,” – a book about the ill-fated expedition to search for the Northwest Passage.
Franklin’s two ships became locked in Arctic ice and all crew members perished.
Vallee has approached an American studio and a British screenwriter about his project.
Vallee’s movie “Dallas Buyer’s Club” won three Oscars last year.
The director’s latest film, “Wild” has opened to rapturous reviews at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
