The music director of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra has abruptly quit the day after leading it in one of its most prestigious performances.

South Korean star cellist Han-Na Chang has conducted the young orchestra for just one year. She led the QPO to a debut performance at the BBC Proms on Sunday, an unusual accomplishment for an orchestra that has only been together for seven years.

She was not at the podium when the QPO repeated its performance in Rome the following night.

The 31-year-old Chang said she was leaving because of “irreconcilable artistic differences.” She was reported to be unhappy that her success in securing the orchestra a prominent debut at the Proms wasn’t given enough credit by management.
