El Sistema is catching on.
Renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma has become the Music Ambassador for Toronto’s El Sistema program.
And down south, Massachusetts has become the first U.S. state to fund the effort from Venezuela – which translates as “The System.”
The free program promotes discipline and ownership among students – based on a philosophy that has transformed the lives of millions of children – living in poverty in Venezuela.
Massachusetts will be the first state to provide grants to El Sistema inspired programs.
A free instrument lending library will be open for students and the program will also collaborate on research into long-term cognitive benefits of music.
