Saint Francis is going to Brooklyn.
13th and 14th century Medieval manuscripts will be displayed in Brooklyn’s Borough Hall.
The priceless works come from the Sacred Convent of St. Francis in Assisi – and it’s the first time the documents have left Italy in 700 years.
The 19 Franciscan texts deal with the theological teachings – and the life of the patron saint of the poor.
Among them is Codex 338 – a collection of the earliest writings and documents relating to Francis – which includes The Canticle of the Creatures – considered the first literary document written in the language of ordinary people.
