The White House has issued a veto warning over the long-stalled Keystone XL oil pipeline. Spokesman Josh Earnest says President Barack Obama will do this year what he would have done during the last Congressional session and veto legislation approving the construction. The Congress that convened Tuesday is Republican-controlled and new Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said the pipeline bill will be among the first issues voted on. Earnest says there is a “well-established” review process that is being run by the State Department that should not be undermined by legislation. He adds, the pipeline’s route through Nebraska also must be resolved. The Keystone XL Pipeline is designed to carry oil from Alberta through the U.S. to refineries on the Gulf Coast.
