A hostage taker at a kosher market in Paris appears to be linked to the suspects in the Charlie Hebdo newspaper attack.  We are learning that two people have been killed and several wounded in the hostage taking at the Paris market.  Paris police are now saying the hostage taker is the suspect in the killing of a policewoman yesterday.

Phone contact has been made with the two terror suspects wanted in the Charlie Hebdo killings, who are cornered in a town 40 kilometres northeast of Paris.

Security personnel and helicopters are in the area to try to find the men who are said to have al-Qaida sympathies.  A French lawmaker inside the command post tells French Television the men “want to die as martyrs.” The suspects have also apparently agreed to allow the safe evacuation of a school near the printing plant where they’re cornered.

There are reports they are holding a hostage and earlier, stole a car amid gunfire.

The two brothers in their 30’s, Cherif and Said Kouachi, are believed to be responsible for the shooting slaughter that left 12 people dead at the Paris office of a satirical newspaper that has spoofed Islam.

Amira Elghawaby is with the National Council of Canadian Muslims.  She told the New AM 740’s Goldhawk Fights Back, the threat of a backlash against Muslims is always a concern in the wake of these types of terror attacks.

“However, what we have seen time and time again here in Canada,” Elgawaby explained, “is that Canadians understand that these crimes that are predicated so called in the name of Islam, really have nothing to do with Muslims or the way that they practice, and the way that they are functioning as contributing members of our society.”

Canada’s prime minister has offered more comments on the shooting massacre in Paris.  Stephen Harper is warning that “jihadists are at war with anyone who values openness and tolerance.” But he added that “people around the world have made it clear they won’t be intimidated by jihadist terrorists.”
