Another study is sounding the alarm about sitting too much.

And it says in the long run – sitting for a good part of the day may be deadly –  even with a regimen of daily exercise.

Researchers at The Toronto Rehabilitation Institute brought together data from 41 international studies.

They discovered that prolonged sitting is associated with a higher risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer and premature death.

And lead author Doctor David Alter says doing 30 to 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous daily exercise – doesn’t mean it’s O-K to be sedentary the rest of the day.

The cardiologist is encouraging people to spend some time standing instead of sitting – such as during commercials –  or for the last 15 minutes of watching a hockey game.

Doctor Alter also suggests that people get up and walk around for a few minutes every half-hour during their  day.

The study is published in today’s Annals of Internal Medicine.
