Three American heart societies have updated their recommendations on target numbers for high blood pressure.
And they have dialed down the number from “Less than 140-over-90” to “Less than 130-over-80.”
The fresh numbers mean more people will be absorbed into the “high blood pressure” category – so the change could put many more people in the U.S. on blood pressure drugs – if doctors embrace the new guidelines.
Here in Canada the Heart and Stroke Foundation guidelines still categorize high blood pressure readings as “140-over-90.”
