More Canadians are cutting the cord.

The “Convergence Consulting Group” says about 95,000 fewer households subscribed to cable TV or satellite in 2014 – a dramatic increase from the year before – when the number of TV subscriptions fell 13,000.

And the consulting firm expects the industry to lose another 97,000 in 2015 – as the shift away from paying for traditional TV services continues.

More viewers appear to be turning to Netflix – which ended 2014 with 3.9 million Canadian subscribers: up from three million the year before.

The study also found more Canadians are watching content online – through the web platforms of  television channels – or illegal downloads.
