It’s opening day in Toronto. The Blue Jays bring their 4 and 2 record home and hand the ball to R.A. Dickey for tonight’s home opener at Rogers Centre. Fans are being advised to arrive early because of enhanced security at the stadium. All Major League Baseball venues have installed metal detectors. Mario Catino, from Rogers Centre Operations, says it won’t be like going through security at the airport. The baseball metal detectors aren’t set at the same intensity as the one at the airport so fans can leave their coats, shoes and belts on, but are asked to remove their cell phones, keys and any large metal items like belt buckles. The doors open at 5 pm. The first pitch goes at 7 pm and will be thrown out by Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred who is making his first official visit to Toronto.
