TRUDEAU AND HARPER GO AFTER MULCAIR ON HIS PROMISE TO BALANCE THE BUDGET

Both Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau and Conservative Leader, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, are taking aim at the New Democrats over their no deficit promise.

While in Newmarket this morning, Trudeau said Tom Mulcair’s promise that an NDP government’s first budget would be balanced means they won’t be able to help the economy or middle class families. Trudeau added, that promising to balance the budget in a recession is poor economic policy and Mulcair needs to come clean with Canadians about what pledges he’d cut to fulfill that promise.

And in Lancaster, Ontario, Stephen Harper told a gathering that Mulcair’s version of a balanced budget is not what’s best for Canada.

“We know what the NDP plan is, they say to balance the budget but the real plan is, they will bring in an avalanche of tax increases that in theory will balance the budget, and in reality, will wreck the economy.  So what we need is exactly what the Conservative government is doing, balanced budget, lower taxes and investments we can afford, and looking at the long term and that’s how we’ve been growing all through this period,” said Harper.

Tom Mulcair, meantime, stuck to his promise today; telling supporters in London that if both the Conservatives and Liberals are attacking his economic platform for different reasons, the NDP must have the most balanced approach.
