Broadway is mourning the passing of James Nederlander, one of the great impressarios.
Nederlander took over his father’s fledging “Nederlander Organization” and built it into one of the largest producers of live entertainment in the world and built a theatre chain that includes 9 Broadway houses.
Nederlander started as an usher, stage hand and ticket seller in his father’s company at age 17. He went on to produce or co-produce more than 100 shows, winning a dozen dozen Tony Awards in the process. He was given a Special Tony for lifetime achievement in 2004. James Nederlander was 94 years old.
