There are some new twists to the latest addition of the Star Trek franchise which starts shooting next month in Toronto.

Producer Bryan Fuller says not only will “Star Trek: Discovery” take place aboard a new starship named “Discovery”, the main character is female, the story will feature a gay character and there will more aliens and more robots.

The 13-episode series is set in an era that bridges the original “Star Trek” from the 1960’s and “Star Trek: Enterprise,” which was set about a century earlier.

Each episode will be streamed live on Netflix the day after it airs on a CBS specialty channel in the U-S.
