As the city of Toronto prepares to start individual screening and licensing of Uber drivers by the end of this month, a 42-year-old Uber driver’s been charged with two counts of assault.
They’re in connection with an incident that allegedly happened last Saturday near the foot of Yonge Street.
A Toronto woman, Maria Mughal, claims it began over a dispute with the driver over which route to take.

She suffered a fractured finger in the incident, part of which was caught on video.
Police say an Uber driver was arrested but would not confirm it was the man in the video.
He’s been released with a promise to appear in court.
Uber reviewed the video and says the driver’s actions are ”unacceptable” and as a result he no longer has access to the Uber platform.
