There are horrible scenes in central Italy today following a deadly earthquake in the middle of the night.

There’s also been another earthquake registering 6.8 in central Myanmar, but it is said to be deep below the earth’s surface and is not expected to have caused as much damage.

Meantime in Italy, at least 120 people are reported dead and dozens are missing, after the magnitude 6.2 quake collapsed homes on top of residents as they slept.

Rescue crews are racing to dig out survivors from mountains of crumbled stone.

But the toll is expected to rise as crews reach homes in harder-to-reach hamlets.

The towns of Amatrice and Accumoli are the hardest hit.

French President Francois Hollande is offering Italy “all the help that might be necessary” after the deadly earthquake in Umbria.

Calling it a “terrible tragedy” in a statement after a special security meeting today, Hollande offered the support of “all the French people.” He didn’t elaborate on what help France is offering.
